WHY LONG ISLAND?

Long Island is the largest island adjoining the continental United States, extending approximately 118 miles east from the mouth of the Hudson River. The island is separated from the mainland on the North by the Long Island Sound and bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the South and East.  It is twenty miles at its widest point.
Totaling 1,377 square miles of land area, Long Island is divided into four counties:  Kings, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk.  Suffolk County is the largest of the four, covering an expanse of 911 square miles, followed by Nassau with 287 square miles, Queens County with 109 and Kings County with 70.  Kings and Queens Counties are within the jurisdiction of New York City. The population of Nassau and Suffolk is estimated at 2.7 million persons.
On Long Island, where people have often moved their families to get away from the problems of the city, the problem has followed them into the suburbs. There are currently over one hundred (100) sexually oriented businesses, over fifty (50) retail outlets that exclusively rent adult XXX hard-core pornography and hundreds of video stores that rent hard-core pornography from small backrooms. In recent years, the problem has become remarkably worse. Under current conditions mentioned above, it is estimated that the problem will continue to worsen.  This has happened in numerous other cities; namely, that the problem always gets worse until caring citizens address it.
LICCV believes that the solution to the problem of sexual violence and exploitation of women and children iseducation and citizen action.  With education, average citizens understand that while the pornographers have a right to open businesses in their neighborhoods, they (citizens) have the right to protect their children and families.
    This is our home!!
People have settled their families here to get away from urban dangers. The presence of illegal pornography threatens thesafety and future of our families.
